Irene Maxine Beames was born to Leo Albert August Engel and Franziska Pauline Albertine Koepsel on January 13, 1933 at White City, Kansas. She would be baptized at the St. John's Lutheran Church White City on February 5th, 1933. As a young girl, Irene grew up on a small farm in the Shady Brook community. Later, she, along with her family would relocate to Herington, KS
Irene would work in Kansas City at the Plaza for a few years, then the original Duckwall’s Store in Herington, KS for many years.
On April 27th 1972, Irene Engel would marry Robert “Bob” Beames of Herington, KS and reside in town. Together they would bring into the world a son, Rusty Rex Beames on December 8th 1976. Not long after Mr. and Mrs. Beames and son Rusty would move to Ramona, KS where Irene would continue to reside for the next 37 years. She would spend her married life with Mr. Beames as a homemaker and mother.
A few years after Mr. Beames’ death in 1994, Irene would once again work at the new Duckwall store in Herington, KS for several years. Irene would also be a faithful member of the Trinity Ladies Aid Group of Ramona, KS for many years.
Surviving are her son Rusty Rex Beames(wife - Samantha) of Herington, KS, Step-daughter Kimberly Sue Pomo( husband - Michael) of Preston, CT. Two grandchildren: Robert Rex Beames II, and Rebecca Ryanna Beames and one niece Tami Cushenberry(husband – Doug) of Emporia, KS. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Beames in 1994, Her mother Frances in 1982, father Leo in 1956, sister Lucille in 2006 and brother Lloyd in 1919.
