PEORIA, IL - Arlene M. Emmerson, 91, of Peoria passed away at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Buehler Memorial Home.
She was born July 24, 1920, in Sheffield, Ill., to Camiel J. "Sam" and Ida C. (VanDeKeere) Emmerson.
Surviving are two sisters, Barbara Truedson of Peoria and Betty Ann Ringenberg of Sheffield, Ill. Arlene also had a very special and loving relationship with her seven nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and -nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and -nephews, who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Arlene was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, serving in WWII as an Army captain in the general hospital and the 22nd field hospital in France during the European Theater. She worked 35 years as a nurse for Caterpillar, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the Caterpillar retirees club. Arlene was also a member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Women's Guild of St. Phils, Legion of Mary, Catholic Women's League, Women's Apostolate of Mt. Alverno, St. Francis Auxiliary, and a charter member of Moonlight China Guild.
She was always busy, either volunteering at the OSF gift shop or as a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Bradley Braves.
She loved to travel, having visited all the continents of the world except for Antarctica.
Being active into her mid-80s, Arlene was an avid golfer, walking nine holes four times a week, and a member of a line dancing group that performed throughout the area.
Cremation will be accorded. Burial of her ashes will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Sheffield, Ill.
