George Oliver Elliott Sr., 57, passed away in St. Luke's Hospital, Houston, Texas, Wednesday, Dec 2, following heart surgery. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m., in the First Baptist Church in Many, with the Rev. Perry Lassiter, and the Rev. B. L. White officiating. Burial was in Ft. Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
Mr. Elliott was a cattleman, a former Louisiana State Trooper, and Security Guard. He was chief deputy of the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department, where he has worked for 18 1/2 years. He was a member of the National Sheriff's Association, Louisiana Sheriff's Association, Louisiana Peace Officers' Association, Louisiana Sheriffs For Better Law Enforcement, Noble Masonic Lodge, and many civic organizations. He was a member of the Noble Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bessie Cutrer Elliott of Many; a son, George O. Elliott Jr. of Many; a daughter, Mrs. Carole E. Nett of Gramercy; grandson, Donnie Nett; seven brothers, Leland Elliott, Noble, Harry Elliott, Dry Creek, Bill Elliott of Lake Charles, R. E. Elliott of DeRidder, W. C. Elliott of Long Beach, Calif., Quitman Lynch, and Mitt Lynch, both of Long Beach, Calif.; and two sisters, Laura Lynch of Leesville, and Mrs. Alice Herndon of Gilliam.
Active pallbearers were T. M. Phillips, George Autrey, Henry Thomas, Johnny Murray, J. E. Dees, and Quinton Brandon.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, City Police, Judges J. S. Pickett, Jack Burgess, District Attorney J. R. Boone, and assistant, T. Self, attorneys, and other court officials, and Rep. Speedy O. Long.
Mr. Elliott will be missed by his many friends and associates.
