Mrs. Dowdy was a teacher in Morehead City and Elizabeth City school systems for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a past president of the Betsy Dowdy Chapter in Elizabeth City.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern.
Mrs. Dowdy is survived by a daughter, Harriet D. Marcus of Raleigh; a stepson, William F. Dowdy III of Raleigh; a brother, William Elliott Jr. of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home in New Bern.
