BARGER
Ruth E. Barger was born on March 14, 1898 in Lucas County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Annie Ekstrom, and passed away July 13, 1974, at the Chariton Manor.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chariton, and the Avis Circle of the United Methodist Women. She taught school for a number of years in Lucas County and also in Mechanicsville, Iowa.
On February 1, 1929, she was united in marriage to J. Pearl Barger of Derby. They were in business in Derby for several years before Pearl passed away in 1961.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Robert Hart of Rapid City, S. Dak.; three grandchildren: Mrs. Cheryl Wiens of Altus, Okla., Miss Jo Hart of Lawrence, Kans., and Bill Hart of Wathena, Kans.; five step-children: Mrs. Clarice Rash and Mrs. Wilma Swanson, both of Des Moines; Mrs. Frances Snook of Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. Thursa Hinchliff, of Minburn,; and Ivan Barger of West Des Moines; and fourteen step-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Emma Durkee and Mrs. Ellen Crow, both of Chariton; Mrs. Evelyn Hatcher of Davison, Mich.; and one brother, Jess Peterson of Chariton; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Merrill D. Summerbell at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Goshen Cemetery.
