EIKEL
ROBERT EIKEL, native Houstonian and prominent admiralty lawyer, died February 13, 1995. He was born in Houston June 27, 1906, and graduated from the University of Texas and the University of Texas Law School before attending Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II, and was awarded the Navy Cross. Upon his return to Houston, he resumed the practice of law and was for many years chief counsel to the West Gulf Maritime Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, Dorothy Davis Eikel, and is survived by his stepchildren, David Fleming and Nancy Fleming of Findlay, Ohio, and William Fleming of Huntsville, Texas; his grandchildren, Mrs. Marguerite Katawczik of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Anne Rinebolt of Washington, DC, and Mr. Jeffrey Fleming of Houston; as well as by his nieces, Mrs. Elizabeth Day of Houston and Mrs. Eleanor Hughes of Jackson, Miss., and by his nephew, Robert Eikel of La Jolla, California. Services will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, on Friday, February 17, 1995 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the family plot in Itasca, Texas.
