Dorothy L. Ackerman, 75, longtime Sioux City resident died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Ackerman was born March 6, 1927, in Emerson, Neb., the daughter of Charles O. and Mary C. (Evans) Edwards. She came to Sioux City with her family as a small child. She attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1944.
She married Albert Ackerman on Aug. 12, 1946, in Sioux City. She was employed with the Sioux City School District and worked in the school lunch program from 1970 to 1984. Mr. Ackerman died July 12, 1996, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Ackerman and his wife, Mary Ann of Washington, D.C., John Ackerman of Sioux City, Tom Ackerman and his wife, Melanie of Urbandale, Iowa, and Paul Ackerman and his wife, Pam of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Michael Holincheck of Fairfax, Va., and Barb and David Madsen of Arlington, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Michael and Julie Ackerman, John, Anthony and Thomas Holincheck, Chase, Brent and Drew Madsen, Chris, Brian, Aaron, Amanda, Kristin and James Ackerman and Bobbi Jo Mueller; three great-grandchildren, William, Emma and Austin Holincheck; and a daughter-in-law, Kathi Ackerman of Minneapolis.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Bill; two brothers, Howard and Donald Edwards; and a sister, Peggy Child.
