Mrs. Edwards of Armstrong Dies at 77

Mrs. James (Hilda Marie) Edwards, 77, of Armstrong died yesterday noon at Holy Family Hospital where she had been hospitalized for the past five weeks. Death was attributed to complications of a fractured hip suffered at the time of her hospitalization.

Mrs. Edwards was a longtime resident of the Armstrong and Halfa communities, having moved to Armstrong in 1913 and later living on a farm near Halfa for 38 years. She and her husband moved to a farm near Armstrong a year ago.

She was born Aug. 12, 1880 at Decorah, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Carlson. The family moved to Carman, Ill., when she was a few years old. She was united in marriage to James Edwards there in September of 1901.

The couple farmed in the Carman area prior to moving to Armstrong. Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Halfa Presbyterian church.

Survivors are her husband, James; three sons, Vernon of Estherville, Wilmot of Ceylon, Raymond at home, two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Thelma) Durham of Mason City and Mrs. Don (Lillian) White of Carroll; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Joe McIntire and Tillie Carlson, both of Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church in Armstrong, the Rev. A.R. Orr officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 2, 1958)
