Mrs. Ada Adams Is Dead; A.C. Pioneer
Mrs. Ada Adams, early day resident of Cowley county and one of the pioneers who made the run to the Cherokee Strip, died Saturday, at Houston, Tex. She was 79 years old.
She had been ill since May, and a week ago Sunday she fell and suffered a broken hip. She has been in Houston since September. Her home here was at 717 South Summit street.
When she was seven years old Mrs. Adams with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Eckles, came to Cowley county from Iowa to Hackney.
Shortley after she was married to Mr. Adams in 1878 and took a claim three miles east they moved to a log cabin, now on the late Will Muret's place north of Arkansas City, which still stands.
They made the run into the Strip in 1893, and took a claim in Kay county. Mr. Adams, who died Aug. 1, 1921, helped to construct the canal through the city.
Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Willard Owen, Houston; Miss Clara Adams, Arkansas City; Mrs. Florence Richardson, Arkansas City; Mrs. Iva Yates, Arkansas City; Mrs. Bertha Moore, Wichita; a son, Harry Adams, Houston; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two children died in infancy.
