He was the son of Edward Eaton and the former Marion Jeanette Brown. His parents divorced in the early 1950s. His mother married George Sears. Eddie, his sister Nancy, Marion and George; and their young children Dorothy and George moved to Costa Mesa, Orange County, California.

Eddie served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war.
