Of Lorton, Virginia, died on April 29, 2014, at Fairfax Hospital surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine McNamara (Robert Kingsley), Ellin McNamara (Lee Straus), Anne McNamara, Tyler Rauer (Jim Rauer), Jane Griffin and Patricia McNamara; stepson, Charles Toby Dutton (Mina Dutton); her sister, Elizabeth Warren (Robert Warren); her beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Jason and Daniel Kingsley, Michael, Rachel and Chelsea Straus, Marty and Ryder Johnston, Melissa and William Griffin, Michael, Lucas and Marcus Dutton; her sister-in-law, Patricia Clarkson; and many other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Charles E. Dutton, and her brother, James Clarkson.
Fun-loving and independent, Peggy was a renowned storyteller who lived on three continents during a lifetime of adventure that took her from the snowy peaks of Kilimanjaro in Africa to the tropical beaches of Hawaii. She was born in California and graduated from Russell Sage College in New York, where she met her first husband, US Ambassador Francis T. McNamara. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Peggy worked various jobs, retiring from the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, DC.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, Virginia on Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's National Medical Center.
