Sudden Death of Alfred T. Durston

Alfred T. Durston died Monday after noon at his home just west of the village, death coming without warning. Mr. Durston was an ardent sportsman and a year ago made a canoe trip through northern Canada for the benefit of his health. He had been suffered from nervous prostration complicated with heart trouble for some time.

Mr. Durston was 40 years old and a son of the late Joseph Durston. In 1891 he married Miss Georgia Roberts of Asbury Park, N. J., and took up his residence in Syracuse. In 1894 he became associated with W. S. Reed, under the firm name of Reed & Durston, in the fire insurance business. Three years later Mr. Reed retired and the firm of Stephens & Durston was formed to continue the business. This firm was composed of Mr. Durston and his brother-in-law, Jacob Stephens, and the connection continued up to the time of his death. The agency occupied a prominent and highly regarded position, in the insurance business of Syracuse.

Mr. Durston was a member of the executive committee of the Anglers' association, of the Syracuse Masonic Bodies, the Citizens' club and of the Syracuse Board of Fire Underwriters. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Georgia Durston; by a brother, A. Goldsmith Durston, and by two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Stephens and Mrs. John F. Partridge, all of Syracuse.

The funeral was held Thursday at his residence on the Syracuse road. Rev. Karl Schwartz, rector of the Church of the Savior, officiated and a quartet consisting of Mrs. Louise Cowles Weston, Mrs. Warren Stone Parks, William A. Sunder and R. Morton Adkins sang. The honorary bearers were R. E. Potter, George E. Congdon, Charles E. Dussett, E. I. White, A. C. Stephens and Dr. A. E. Vadeboncouer. The active bearers were John Wilkinson, A. H. Durston, Jacob Stephens, John E. Partridge, Frank Candee and Harry Duguid.
