Mrs. D. B. Durfee Will be Buried This Afternoon in El Monte
Funeral services for Mrs. Diantha B. Durfee, pioneer citizen of California and widow of the late James D. Durfee, rancher of El Monte, will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at the family home on Durfee Road, two miles from El Monte, where she has lived sixty-six years. Mrs. Durfee died Wednesday night at her home.
Her body will be placed in El Monte Cemetery beside the ashes of her husband, who died in 1920. In accordance with his request his body was cremated and the ashes held at the Emerson and White mortuary.
Mrs. Durfee was 86 years of age. She came to California from Missouri in 1852 with a party who traveled in ox carts. Nearing their goal after the long trip across the plains, the oxen gave out at Yuma and Mrs. Durfee and her sister, now Mrs. Lydia Reeves of Covina, were transported to San Diego on a government stage.
She leaves, besides her sister, a daughter, Mrs. Albert Stack of Huntington Park and a son, J. R. Durfee, of El Monte, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
