Joyce Edna Bate
1933 ~ 2016
Joyce Edna Bate, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 82 on October 30, 2016.
Born November 28, 1933 in Logan, Utah to Chester Edward and Alice Cleora Durant. She attended Whittier Elementary, where she unknowingly met her husband Craig Bate in the 3rd grade. She finished school at Logan High School, where she and Craig, a Lt. Col of the High School ROTC, had their first date to the Cadet Hop. They married right out of High School on May 6, 1954 and began a wonderful life together. As Craig entered the Army as an officer, this afforded Joyce the privilege of being a homemaker, seamstress and the most amazing mother to 5 children: Cary Craig, CleeDawn, David Jay, Tony Joe, and Troy Von.
Thanks to the military they moved 16 times over Craig's 24 years of service reaching many wonderful parts of the country and world, such as: Washington, Virginia, California, Germany, Brazil, Utah, etc. Joyce was also blessed to serve in the LDS communities of these areas as a Relief Society President, Young Women's President, Primary President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and her most favorite - Primary Teacher. Besides her long service and love for the Lord, she had an astonishing love for her children and grandchildren. They enjoyed receiving her many macramé dolls, toys, clothes, many many patched pants and other wonderful crafts that came from her craft-room. And the memory of her Christmas stories and chimes will forever be etched into her posterity.
At the young age of 59, she lost her only daughter, Dawn, to breast cancer and Joyce suffered greatly for her loss and continually longed to be with her again someday. Those survived by Joyce, are comforted to know that she has now been able to join her loving husband and sweet daughter after all these years. Her love and care for everyone she came in contact with will forever be remembered.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5 at 11 A.M. at the Granite Ward, 3100 E. Little Cottonwood Rd. Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held prior from 9:30 - 10:45 A.M. Interment at Alpine City Cemetery www.broomheadfuneralhome.com
