Alfonso Duràn, Sr. Passed away peacefully in his home on October 11, 2008 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pablino and Ernestina Duran; and brother, Gilbert Duran. Alfonso dedicated 32 years of his life to teaching children in Santo Domingo Pueblo and enjoyed a career as a pianist that began at the age of 14. He proudly served in the U.S Marines with active duty in the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Orlesia Duran; sister, Dessie Sandoval and family, children: Rose Marie Duran, Sylvia and Edward Nickerson, Alfonso M. Duran, Richard Duran, Sandra and Michael Mares; grandchildren: Leah Lopez, Carlo Franco, Raquel Wheeler, Jennifer Carmack, Estevan Mares, and Christiana Mares; and other extended family members. Burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
