Barbara J. Chaput, 85, of Portage formerly of Battle Creek passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Upjohn Community Care Center in Kalamazoo. She was born on May 2, 1927 in Flint, MI to Wallace H. and Emily (Trethewey) Dunstan. Barbara graduated from Jeffers High School in Painesdale, MI and attended Michigan State University. She was a licensed cosmetologist and owned a beauty shop for 27 years. Barbara married Douglas P. Chaput on August 24, 1946 in Atlantic Mine, MI, he preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by a son, Patrick H. Chaput, of Battle Creek, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents and a son Donald K. Chaput. Barbara was a member of Bellevue Church of Christ and Adorer's Prayer Group. She was a volunteer at LaMora Park School. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, music, and playing the piano. Barbara was also a member of Eaton's Retirees Local #196. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
