Rose Rebecca Painter Dunn, 100, passed away at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario, Oregon Tuesday December 14, 2010.
She was born October 3, 1910 in Bloomington, ID, the eldest of eight children of George and Deltha Painter. She attended grade and high school in Bloomington and Paris. Her teaching certification was awarded through the completion of study at the Normal School at Albiun, ID. Continuing education was pursued with extension classes and summer schools. Her Bachelor's Degree was received from Utah State University in 1963.
Rose taught elementary school, primarily 1st and 2nd grades in Bloomington, Georgetown, Conda and Montpelier. She retired after completing nearly 40 years of service.
Reading and teaching have remained her passion. The book she left half read was an "Autobiography Of John Adams." At each visit the great grand kids were tested on their phonics with some adding and subtracting thrown in.
Health and well-being became a concern in 2004 and Rose relocated from Montpelier to the Meridian/Fruitland area to be nearer to family. Many new friends were developed with her home at the Retirement/Assisted Living Center.
On October 3, 2010, after witnessing a century of changes, Rose was able to enjoy her 100th birthday party with some 50 family and friends in Meridian.
Rose married Stanley Dunn on July 5, 1939 in the Logan Temple. He preceded her in death in July 2004. She is survivied by her youngest broither, Dallas Painter, of Salt Lake City; sons Richard (Susan) of Fruitland, ID and Vance (Betty) of Mineral, Virginia, eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
