Mrs. Duffey, affectionately known as "Mom Carrie", was a member of Bibleway Christian Fellowship Church for 37 years. She was a nurse's aide at St. Vincentian of North Hills and a housekeeper at Holiday Inn of New Kensington for 15 years. She was the chief executive of housekeeping at Allegheny Valley Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1995.
She was a graduate of Har Brack High School and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, care-giving, planning Brackenridge reunions, listening to gospel music, encouraging her pastors and endlessly bragging on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her sister and best confidant, Opal E. Merriwether, of New Kensington; if you saw one you saw the other; her three beloved children, Sylvia (Robert) Rowe, of Arnold, Carla (Sidney) Gaskins, of Pittsburgh, and John (Elaine) Duffey Jr., of Tarentum; her beloved grandchildren, Troy, Marci (Drew), Dante, Brian, John and Brittany; her precious great-grandchildren, Michael and Paxton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Walter, Demaree, Willie and Gilbert Manley and Mae Bell Jones.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1150 Asa Roberts Way, New Kensington, with Pastor Mitchell Nickols officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Burial in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
