DUER - Chester, son of Carl and Anna Duer, was born on March 8, 1913 in Wayne County, Ia., and departed from this life on November 14, 1968 at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital in Chariton, at the age of 55 years, eight months and six days. He lived all his life in and around Wayne and Monroe Counties.

During his childhood he accepted the Lord as his Savior and joined the First Christian Church of Confidence, and later in life he renewed his faith in God.

On February 17, 1934, he was united in marriage to Neva Holder of Chariton and to this union five children were born: Bill, of Melrose, Geneva Bequette, of Melrose, Tom of Des Moines, Nancy Moore of Russell and Patty, at home. Chester was a kind and loving husband and father.

As a young man he worked in the coal mines around Confidence. After that he took up farming, and in 1946 moved to a farm north of Melrose. In his later years he undertook helping to rebuild Melrose by remodeling homes, installed a laundromat and beauty shop. His last two undertakings were the building of the post office and a restaurant.

Survivors are his wife, two sons, three daughters, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren, a brother, John, in Phoenix, Ariz., a sister, Wilma Hudson, of Russell, a half-sister, Bonnie Deney, of Stockton, two half-brothers, James Head, of Des Moines and Wayne Head, of Stockton, and other remaining relatives throughout the country.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

He will be greatly missed by everyone in the community.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. Edward Quick at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Chariton. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
