Esther All, the daughter of James and Bertha Buttolph Dryden, was born March 17, 1913, in Emmetsburg. Esther was the seventh of eight children and grew up on a farm near Emmetsburg. She received a certificate of education from Drake University Junior College of Education in June 1932 at 19 years old.
Esther married Orin "Dale" All in Emmetsburg on June 8 1941. She spent her entire life in northwest Iowa. She taught kindergarten until her marriage, becoming a homemaker and helping with the family business.

Esther was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. She served on many church committees and sang in the choir. She also was a member of Clef Club. She loved to read and do needlework. She gave up driving at the age of 88 and spent her later years reading hundreds of books thanks to the Spencer Public Library's service of delivering books to shut-ins. Her final years were spent at St. Luke's Lutheran Home where she received loving care and continued to have her nose in a book.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 1979; five sisters; and two brothers.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Barbara (Dudley) Hanson of Davenport, Jim (Mary) All of Apple Valley, Minn., and Lynne Schweitzer of Bend, Ore.; seven grandchildren: Kristen (Matt) Wilber of Davenport, Joel Hanson of Iowa City, Meredith (Andrew) Tessier of St. Paul, Minn., Melanie Hanson of Chicago, Ill., Katie (Josh) Klitzke of Minneapolis, Minn., Jimmy All of Apple Valley, Minn., and Sarah All of Minneapolis, Minn.; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.
