MRS THOMAS WOODSIDE
Mrs. Emma Dreisbach Woodside, 89, died Wednesday in Hudson, Ill., in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd B. Shaw.
Mrs. Woodside was born in Pickaway Township, the daughter of Isaac and Lydia Hittle Dreisbach and was the last of her immediate family.
She was graduated by North Western College in Naperville, Ill., in 1882, and was married the same year to the Rev. Thomas W. Woodside who preceded her in death several years ago.
The Rev. and Mrs. Woodside, with their two small daughters went to Aftica in 1888 as missionaries under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.
Their first five years were spent in Bailundo Angola, West Africa, and they were in the missionary field for 31 years.
Mrs. Woodside's special work was teaching in the native schools, training native teachers and attending the medical dispensary.
After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Woodside gave two school dormitories to their former African station as memorials to their daughter, Mabel, and son Wilfred.
After returning to America, Mrs. Woodside lived in Orlando, Fla., for 20 years and in 1944 came to Circleville where she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Crites of 825 North Court street for two years.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Shaw; two grandchildren, and Mrs. Lois Wood of Upper Sandusky; two great-grandchildren; seven nieces, including Mrs. H.D. Jackson, Mrs. Eva Dresbach, and Mrs. Crites of Circleville; and three nephews, including Orin Dreisbach of Circleville, who was seriously injured Thursday in an auto accident near Gallipolis.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mader Chapel with the Rev. Donald Mitchell of Circleville Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial was in the family plot in Ebenezer Cemetery in Pickaway Township under the direction of Mader Funeral Chapel.
