Carla Rae Downs Francis passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Carla was born January 3rd, 1940 in Afton, Wyoming to Neva and Elvin Downs. As a young child, Carla moved to Salt Lake City, UT. She attended South High, graduated in 1958, and formed friendships (club) which have lasted through the years. At age 11, she fell for her "blue eyed sweetheart," Marvin Francis, whom she later married in The Salt Lake Temple February 13th, 1959. After retirement, she enjoyed her time as a crossing guard for West Valley City. She was dedicated and did not miss a day, even during chemo. As a devoted member of the LDS church, Carla served and enjoyed various callings over the years. She especially valued the time she spent working in the Jordan River Temple baptistry for over 8 years. Carla is survived by her husband, Marvin Francis, children Kevin (Jennifer) Francis, Michael (Jeri) Francis, Sherri (Matthew) Meredith, Jackie Francis, Jeannette (Greg) Pay, Diana Francis, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren on the way. She was preceded in death by her mother Neva, father Elvin, brother Jay, and son in law, Greg.
The viewing and funeral services will be held Friday, November 25 at the Jordan North 6th Ward, 3836 West 4100 South (enter on Hawkeye Dr.) The viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm with the funeral service starting at 1:00pm.
