CORINTH and STETSON - Nola D. Burleigh, 58, the wife of Glenn Burleigh Sr., was called home by her Lord, Jan. 11, 2002, at her Bangor residence, after an extended illness. She was born June 10, 1943, in East Corinth, the daughter of Albert and Beryl (Chesley) Dow. After earning her Master's degree, she taught school in East Corinth, Farmington and Torrington, Conn. and worked a total of 10 years in education as a teacher and guidance counselor. She was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church, where she served as Church Treasurer for seven years. She also served as a Sunday School teacher, as a co-worker for Meals For Friends and helped start the Share Food Program. Nola had owned and operated The Hope Chest Gift Shop and also worked as a foster mother for six years. She had been a volunteer EMT on the East Corinth Ambulance service for 19 years and had served most of those years as its co-director. Nola always believed her first career was her family and was very dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her husband of Bangor, are her loving children, Glenn Jr. and his wife, Glenna of Bangor, Pam Cleaves and her husband, Paul of Windham and Cynthia Owens and her husband, Gary of Auburn; a brother, Cedric Dow of Tavares, Fla.; a sister, Carolyn Shackley and her husband, Walter of Sebring, Fla.; foster brothers, George Boone and George Chesley, both of Corinth; seven darling grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Glenn III, Joshua, Angela, Geneva, William, Caitlyn and Christopher. She also leaves cherished friends, Greg and Carole Littell of New York, Rick and Linda Kemper of Virginia, Ken and Jan Rockwell of New Hampshire, Rev. Clark and Beverly Osborn of Lincoln and Diane Hodgkins of Bangor. Nola was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Fae Dow; a brother, G. Lyford Dow; and a foster brother, Maurice Jones. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Rd., Corinth. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Corinth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Michael Pike and Rev. Dr. Dennis Reeves officiating. Spring burial will be in Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. The family invites relatives and friends for a time of refreshment and fellowship at the church annex, following the service. Those who wish may make donations in Nola's memory to the Corinth United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 17, Corinth, ME 04427. For information and an on line guest book, please visit
