From the Thursday, Oct. 5, 1950 edition of the San Mateo Times:
S. F. Woman Burns to Death in Auto
SACRAMENTO, Oct. 5 – Mrs. Mildred Mary Jones, (161 Clifford terrace), San Francisco. was burned to death Tuesday when she was unable to escape from a burning auto on Yolo causeway.
Her husband, Samuel Jones, told Coroner W. C. McNary he spotted a fire in the back seat of his car as they drove across the causeway. He pulled over to the curb to put out the fire but the blaze began to spread.
His wife attempted to leave the car, he said, but was locked in because the auto was too close to the curbing.
"I told her to slide over to the other door," Jones said, " but she collapsed and just then the whole car caught fire."
"I tried to reach her but couldn't."
