William Marsellas Douglas
William Marsellas Douglas was born 22 Jan 1918, at Hindsboro, Illinois. He was a son of Ralph and Ethel (Hanks) Douglas. He was a rural mail carrier for 37 years until his death on 16 Apr 1978, at Hindsboro. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a strong, independent man who loved to read. One of his favorite hobbies was tinkering with old cars. He was a devoted husband and caring father.
On 3 Jun 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Evelyn Carter at Mattoon, Illinois. She was born 2 Aug 1927, at Shelbyville, Illinois, and daughter of Edward and Lilly (Hawn) Carter. For many years she used her skill as a seamstress and sewed for residents of Hindsboro. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother.
They had four children; Charles Eugene, married Anita Schaefer; Deborah Marie, married Robert Keeling Rentfro; Diane Lynn, married Robert Elder; and Richard Edward; Married Kimberly.
William was buried in the VanVoorhis Cemetery north of Hindsboro in Bowdre Twp.
