AUGUSTA, Ga. - Rev. Andrew Terence Doris, 90, entered into rest on Friday, February 17, 2006. Rev. Doris was born on September 20, 1915, at home on Ellis St. in Augusta, to Thomas Patrick Doris and Johanna Theresa O'Callaghan Doris. He attended college at Belmont Abbey and graduated from Georgetown Law School. On May 15, 1947, he was ordained at Belmont Abbey. He taught secondary education from 1949 until 1963, was Principal of Benedictine High School in Richmond, Va., from 1949 to 1959 and was a high school teacher at Benedictine High School in Savannah, Ga., from 1959-1966. Rev. Doris was Chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta for seven years, Pastor for St. Joseph Catholic Church in Augusta from 1971-1975 and Chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah from 1975-1985. He retired in 1985 but continued to serve the Augusta Catholic community. Survivors include his sister- in-law, Mrs. Bernard Joseph Doris of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; along with nieces and nephews, Alice Doris Carter of Augusta, Maryan Doris St. Onge and husband, Ronald James St. Onge, of Augusta, Catherine Doris Woodhurst and husband, Robert Stanford Woodhurst III, of Augusta, Bernard Joseph Doris, Junior and wife, Marcia Gagnon Doris, of Augusta, Irene Doris Sulkowski and husband, John Peter Sulkowski, of Charleston, S.C., Dr. Andrew Terence Doris II and wife, Athena Albright Doris, of Suwanee, Ga., Anna Doris Wilds and husband, Ashley Sloan Wilds. of Augusta, Martha Doris Freshley and husband, Bruce Palmer Freshley. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; plus great-nieces and nephews, Edward John Flythe and wife, Molly Quattlebaum Flythe, James William Flythe, Robert Stanford Woodhurst IV, William Gary Woodhurst, Alice Carwile Woodhurst, Catherine Brooks Woodhurst, Leila Hammond Woodhurst, Lindsey O'Callaghan Doris, Elizabeth Cyr Doris, Thomas Joseph Sulkowski, Theresa Ann Sulkowski, Mary Angela Sulkowski, Merilise Victoria Doris, Andrew Terence Doris III, Lauren Elizabeth Doris, Ashley Sloan Wilds, Jr., Patrick O'Callaghan Wilds, Bruce Palmer Freshley, Jr., Hamilton Phinizy Freshley, Mary Doris Freshley, Leland Reinhart Freshley; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Hailey Elizabeth Flythe and Andrew John Flythe. Rev. Doris was preceded in death by his siblings, Rev. Sebastian Doris, O.S.B., Edward John Doris, Mary Catherine Doris and Bernard Joseph Doris. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Fr. Doris' caregivers whom he called "My Friends": Bobbie Phillips, Cecilia Russell, Rona Boone, Dorothy Wright and Sylvia Waymond. The Vigil for the deceased and Holy Rosary was held on Monday, February 20, 2006, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church and the family received friends afterwards in the Parish Hall. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 12 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Most Rev. J. Kevin Boland, Bishop of Savannah, Celebrant. Assisting him was Abbot Placid Solari, O.S.B. and Rev. John Lyons, Pastor. Concelebrants were the Priests of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah. Pallbearers were Bernard Joseph Doris, Jr., Andrew Terence Doris II, Edward John Flythe, James William Flythe, Thomas Joseph Sulkowski, Robert Stanford Woodhurst IV, William Gary Woodhurst and Bruce Palmer Freshley, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's The Worker Council #13437. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.
