George (Mal) Malcolm Doolittle, of The Glebe Retirement Home in Daleville, Virginia and formerly from Cobleskill, New York, was promoted to glory to see his Savior on May 16, 2009. He was born on October 25, 1925, in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey to Constance A. Lapham and Wilfred Hildreth Doolittle. In 1943 "Mal" enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He saw active duty in the Asiatic-Pacific and Okinawa during World War II and was discharged in 1946. There after "Mal" attended SUNY Farmingdale. He worked for J.C. Penney for a time. In 1948 "Mal" married Dorothy B. Kremer. They owned and worked dairy farms in Richmondville and Cobleskill, New York. Mal was active in Farm Bureau. After being widowed, "Mal" married Lorraine Rabbitt in 1976. They worked the farm until retiring in 1981. In retirement they managed the Doolittle Barns and the In the Woods Cross Country Ski businesses until moving to Virginia in 1998. While there he enjoyed boating, woodcarving and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was predeceased by wife, Dorothy (1973); brothers, Wilfred Hildreth Jr. (1975) and Harold Elmer Doolittle (1969); and stepson, Gerald Murphy (1987). He is survived by his wife, Lorraine R. Doolittle; sons, Donald L. Doolittle, of Delta, Colo., Dr. Gary M. (Susan) Doolittle, of Olympia, Wash.; and daughters, Dawn (Alan) Harding, of Marathon, N.Y. and Diane (Ted) Lawrence, of Smyrna, N.Y.; stepdaughters, Virginia Langley and Judith (Scott) Belden, both of Arnold, Maryland; and stepson, Joseph (Karen) Murphy, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; nieces and nephews and 14 grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating "Mal's" life will be held tonight
, May 19, 2009, at 7 p.m., at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4930 Country Club Road, Troutville, Va. 24175 with the Rev. Robert Hutchins officiating. Interment Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at The Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Va.
