John Locke Doggett, Jr. was born in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Yale College in 1915 with a law degree. Subsequently he became a partner at the firm of Doggett, Christie & Doggett, in Jacksonville. He married Miriam Lee (Jones) Doggett of Albany, GA on the 27th of June, 1921. They had two children: Nancy Lee Doggett (Walker) and Miriam "Winkie" Doggett (Barbour). Later, he relocated to Manhattan, New York City, New York. After his death, Miriam married Howard W. Vander Voort.
