Verna Mae Ayres, age 62 of Dayton, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday September 28, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. Born on March 5, 1947 in Bristol, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Vernon Lloyd & Nina Estelle (Offield) Dodson. Preceded in death by Sister: Edna Darlene (Dodson) Nelson in 2002 and Stepmother: Georgia (Bordwine) Dodson in 2004.

Survived by Husband of 40 years: Harold E. Ayres; Daughters & sons-in-law: Katrina & Lawrence Poirier of Malden, MA; Rebecca & Ben Picker of Tipp City, OH; Valissa Ayres of Dayton, OH; Sons & daughter-in-law: Nathan & Ciomara Martin Ayres of Dayton, OH; Timothy Ayres of Dayton, OH and Eddie Ayres of Dayton, OH. Cousins who were like children: Kaleena Brown and Andrew Brown; Grandchildren: Vaughn Martin, Sean Pittman, Danielle Pittman, Tyler Wildenhaus-Ayres, Courtney Ayres-McClinton, Makayla Picker, Adam Picker, Isabella Ayres, Kaylea Poirier, Austen Picker, Isaac Ayres, Eden Picker and Elijah Ayres: Sisters & Brothers-in-laws: Glenna & Richard Schmidt of Sumter, SC.; Gladys & Herschel Cook of Bristol, TN; Mary Ellen Dodson of Bristol, TN; Brothers & Sisters-In-Law: Vernon & Iris Dodson of Bristol, TN and Lawrence & Rita Dodson of Morristown, TN.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 - 10:00 AM at the Barnes Funeral Home, 411 North Commerce Street, Lewisburg, Ohio with Pastor Greg Trout and Pastor Jim Mulholland officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday - September 30, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the funeral home.
