Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Haupt officiating. Burial is in Riverview Sweaney Cemetery under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Phyllis Morene Sweaney, 86, was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Charity, the daughter of Oscar and Lettie Ann (Stafford) Dill. She died March 28, 2011, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center, Buffalo.

She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1943, and attended Missouri State University and specialized in education. She began her teaching career in one-room schoolhouses. She worked in Head Start and Dallas County Schools until her retirement in 1990. She said teaching was the best job in the world.

She was married to Winston Loyd Sweaney on Dec. 28, 1950, after meeting him while teaching at White Palace Schoolhouse in Dallas County.

She lived a healthy and full life. She lived most of her married life on a farm northeast of Buffalo. She moved to Buffalo in 1997 after the death of her husband. She was completely devoted to her husband and family. She loved attending family gatherings where she enjoyed spending time visiting with her extended family, including many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She had been a member of Center Point Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Buffalo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winston, on Nov. 10, 1995; one brother, Leon Dill; two sisters: Pansy Cyrus and Wilma Richardson; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her children: Terry Winston Sweaney and Rhonda and husband, Terry Halleran, all of Strafford, and David Lloyd Sweaney, Springfield; two grandchildren: Amanda and husband, Rob Foster, Springfield, and Sean and wife, Lindsay Jackson, Marshfield; three step-grandchildren: Lindsey and Landon Gross, Arkansas, and LeDotta Halleran, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Elise Jackson, Marshfield; two step-great-granddaughters: Isabella and Olivia Pind, Illinois; one sister, Betty and husband, Bob Howerton, Buffalo; one brother, Dale and wife, Kathleen Dill, Buffalo; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Crews, Macon.
