Minister of the gospel of Jesus for 56 years. Editor of the Religious Herald for 41 years. The son of Ralph Dickinson and Frances A. S. Quisenberry Dickinson. At age eighteen he was a teacher at a small school in his Louisa County community. He graduated Richmond College in 1852. He then attended the University of Virginia for two sessions. He was licensed to preach and ordained at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Louisa. During the War for Southern Independence he worked faithfully among the Confederate soldiers. In one year he raised $180,000 for distribution of Bibles in the Army of Northern Virginia.
