Founding of Harmony Union Baptist Church.

Founding of Harmony Union Baptist Church and pioneer membership and first ministers serving there were told to members of Oregon Historical Society, Yamhill Chapter by Miss Neppie Lou Bell, daughter of a pioneer family.

The church which celebrated a century in 1954 was started by charter members, John Dickey, John, Aaron, Joseph and David Lynch, Hankinson F. Read, Elizabeth Dickey, Nancy Burden, Jane Read, Lucy Read, Lucinda Sparks, Malinda Lynch, Eliza Dickey and Mary A. Lynch, Presbytery were Elders C. C. Riley and Richard Miller.

The group met at the Union School House, thereby the first church was named Union Baptist Church, Lizzie Blair, mother of Mrs. Bessie Wirfs, attended school in the Union School. The land was on the John Lynch donation land claim. In September of 1856, the Red Prairie Schoolhouse (then called Ridgeway) was used for the church services. The Red Prairie Schoolhouse land was donated by the Conner family and the school was built by Harmony area people (Miss Bell's mother, Margaret McGhie. Walked to school there.)
