She was born Dec. 3, 1922 near Preston, MD, the daughter of the late William L. and Victoria Johnson Dickerson.
In earlier years she was the cook and maid for a private family in Chestertown, and had worked at the former Phillip Packing Co. in Cambridge, MD. She worked for the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Co. for public gatherings where she was famous for her fried chicken, and fried oysters during the carnival. Her memberships included Caroline County Home Makers, Community Civic League, and a former member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Denton. After her marriage to Rev. William Briggs, Jr. she transferred her membership to Solomon AUMP Church in Federalsburg.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rev. William Briggs, Jr., whom she married on Jan. 9, 1950, a daughter Barbara D.A. Cook and her husband Melvin, a son William Harold Briggs and his wife Debra, two granddaughters Jenee' Briggs Sampson and her husband Eric, and Lashea Briggs, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five siblings, Lulu V. Prattis, Sara Stanford, Lewis H. Johnson, Howard E. Dickerson, and Ernest Dickerson.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., July 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Federalsburg, with The Most Rev. Dr. Delbert L. Jackson Presiding Prelate, officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home and on Sat. from 10 -11 am at the church.
