Carolyn "Carrie" Byrd Dickens, 66, of Lake Junaluska, NC, passed away April 3, 2013, at The Homestead.
A native of Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Douglas Clinton and Mary Francis Strom Byrd. Carolyn had several careers from teaching math to coordinating Quality Circles at Union Carbide. She went back to school to receive her masters in Library Science and became a media specialist for several years. Carolyn was blessed with an amazing husband, children and grandchildren that enriched her life immensely. She was a passionate volunteer with the Emmaus Community, Projects for Hospice and Youth for Christ. She was loved by so many and will be missed by all. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC, and Long's Chapel United Methodist Church at Lake Junaluska, NC.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 32 years, Al Dickens; three daughters, Sheree Rose and husband, Jim of Waynesville, NC, Loree Lam and husband, Paul of Raleigh, NC, and Mandy Prather and husband, Hunt of Summerset, KY; two sons, Greg Dickens and wife, Tiffinie of Waynesville, NC, and Wade Dickens and wife, Lupe of West Palm Beach, FL; a brother, Douglas C. Byrd, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.
