Birth: Aug. 16, 1850
Death: Apr. 14, 1851

The inscription reads ; "Dora Annie, the ninth child of Charles and Catherine Dickens, died 14th. April 1851, aged eight months." Dora was born at 1 Devonshire Terrace, just South of Regent's Park. As her father was writing "David Copperfield" at the time, she was given the same name as the hero's wife. Sadly, Dora, like her fictional namesake, was not a healthy child, and she died, from a convulsion, in the house of her birth, whilst her mother was recuperating at Malvern in Worcestershire. She is buried in the same grave as her mother. In addition, the tombstone bears the names of two of her brothers : Walter, who died in Calcutta, and Sydney, who died and was buried at sea (qq.v.).  (bio by: Iain MacFarlaine)

There is no love, like a motherís love, no stronger bond on earth...Like the precious bond that comes from God, to a mother, when she gives birth./ A motherís love is forever strong, never changing for all time... And when her children need her most, a m...(Read more)
