Barbara D. McAlister died at her home April 1, 2013, in Laurens, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Lucy S. Dial and Albert Dial, and was a lifelong resident of Laurens. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
During World War II she did volunteer work with the American Red Cross and in 1967-71 she served on the Governor's Mansion Committee which acquired furnishings and decorative arts for the residence of our Governor.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Paul W. McAlister, to whom she was a great help in his many successes. Like "P.W.", "Miss Bobbie" was a dedicated philanthropist. She was also predeceased by a son, W. Hastings McAlister.
Surviving Mrs. McAlister are a son, Albert D. McAlister and wife Gayle, a grandson, A. Dial McAlister, Jr. and wife Kara, and a granddaughter, Camille H. McAlister.
A graveside service was held April 2, 2013, at Laurens City Cemetery conducted by Rev. Alice MacKeil and Rev. Bill Rogers.
