Son of Robert Black Deviney and Susannah Grayson Deviney. Married Rachel McFarland October 28, 1839 in Rutherford Co., NC.

Probably moved to South Carolina in 1852 or early 1853, as Aaron Deviney was listed as "removed" from the Rutherford County Tax lists in the September 1853 probate court report on insolvents, deaths and removals. He was living in York, South Carolina by 1860, next to daughter Mary Jane and son-in-law James McFarland. Estate administered in 1885 by Joseph F. Wallace, with a "widow's third" of $117.20 going to Sarah E. Divinney, and $21.45 to his children N.C. [Margaret C.] McFarland, J.A. [James Ernest] Divinney, N.G. [Nancy Gabriella] McCants, [Mary Jane] M.J. McFarland, H.E. [Elizabeth] Stewart, Jno. M. [John McFarland] Divinney, W.J. [William J.] Divinney, R.L. [Robert Lee] Divinney, Martha Rawls, Millie E. Nichols?, B.J. [Benjamin Jackson] Divnney.
