Death: Sep. 21, 1892

James W. Deuel was one of the early members of Englewood. He was a school teacher and opened the first all boy's school in Englewood, which was one of, if not the first building in Englewood, NJ. James W. Deuel had to close the school once the war started, because parents no-longer had the money to send their children. After closing the school Mr. Deuel remained in the building, that was also his home and became a teacher with the first public school in Englewood. It is also said, that James W. Deuel allowed the church to use his house/school building as a meeting place, until the first church could be built. He is buried in Englewood Cemetery, aka/Brookside Cemetery along with his family. His wife and daughter were also teachers with the school of Englewood.
