Darwin D. Deppe, "Double D," passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the age of 72, after a short bout with Leukemia.
Darwin was born on January 4, 1939, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Demond B. Deppe and Leora May (Foster) Deppe. He was the oldest of three children, followed by two sisters, Linda (Deppe) Kinney of Arizona and Janet Adair (Deppe) Moss (deceased). At the time of his death he was married to Yuezhen Song Deppe. Darwin was active in ROTC during high school.
Following graduation, he served four years with the US Navy. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1962. He loved his country and was proud to serve our great Nation. "Haze gray and underway."
He married Norma Jasperson on July 18, 1959, and the two were blessed with three girls: DiAnne Huntington, Tennessee; Carole Woolstenhulme; and Darla McRoberts. He graduated from the College of Idaho with a BA in Business. He was the co-owner of Nelson-Deppe, Inc., a road construction business which operated all over the state of Idaho.
He retired from the business ten years ago and since then enjoyed developing his acreage into a sanctuary for fish and birds. In his ponds he raised two sturgeon, hundreds of trout, and built quail condos and nesting grounds for geese and ducks.
Darwin was well known for his skill and love for the game of golf. Most days (whether sunshine, rain, sleet or snow) were spent in part either playing the game or watching it on TV. He became very accomplished at this sport and as a result made many valuable friendships and won many local tournaments. In his younger years he was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Song; daughters, DiAnne (and David) Huntington, Carole (and Kyle) Woolstenhulme, Darla (and Greg) McRoberts; six grandchildren: Druu Gillogly, McKenna Ford, Burkleigh Ford, Lauren Woolstenhulme, Quinn McRoberts and Mylie McRoberts; and his sister, Linda (Deppe) Kinney.
A funeral service will be held at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd., Nampa, on Wednesday, March 16 at 4 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to visit with the immediate family at a viewing from 3 to 4, prior to the ceremony. Call Zeyer Funeral Chapel at 467-7300 with any questions.
Now we will find him on the number one tee in Heaven where the fairways are plush and the greens are fast.
