IRWIN — Inona Maxine Axland, daughter of Lester and Daisy (Smith) Dent, was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Polk Township, Shelby County. Inona attended rural school at Danway in Polk Township, and graduated from Harlan High School.
She married Clifford Jennings Axland June 23, 1935, at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Irwin. To this union, three children were born, Jerald, Larry and Dean. Jerald died July
12, 1996. Inona and Cliff farmed in the Irwin area since their marriage. They moved to the edge of Irwin in 1940, and resided there until moving into Irwin in 1980. Inona moved to the Manning Plaza and resided there until her death July 8, 2001, at age 85 years, seven months and 22 days.
Inona was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; a son, Jerald; parents; and a sister, Shirley, in childhood. Surviving Inona are her two sons and their wives, Larry
(Bonne) Axland of Manilla and Dean (Sharon) Axland of Nevada; a daughter-in-law, Dwanna Axland of Malvern; two brothers and their wives, (Lynn (Caroline) Dent and Ralph (Delores) Dent, both of Audubon; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held July 11, 2001, at Pauley Funeral Home with Reverend Sidney Flack officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, with Tammy Volrich, Deanna Axland, Terri Yager, Carmen Rasmussen and Jill Plagman honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers were Todd Axland, Randy Rasmussen, Tim Axland, Lance Axland, Jay Plagman, Mark Axland and Jerry Yager.
