William Denison was born and raised in Roxbury. He graduated from Harvard College in 1681, and also served as the town clerk for many years. The Denison Genealogy by E. Glenn Denison on page 576 indicates he married Dorothy Welde and had children, but it is not known that any male descendant bearing the family name survived.
William Denison was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Welde) Denison. Edward was in 1665 the first town clerk of Roxbury, and a representative in 1652 and 1655. Edward's father was William Denison, who came to America from England on the ship "Lion" with his wife and three youngest sons, settling in Roxbury in 1631.
