On August 23, 2012, Dorothy Mae Allpress, passed away. She was born outside of Mt. Ayr, Iowa at the family farm on July 8, 1919 to Howard Denhart and Paroda Newton. Dorothy had one brother, John and two sisters, Ninabel and Mary.
She met the love of her life, Bill Allpress at the age of 15. During World War II, Dorothy taught soldiers how to use radios and then she went to work in Hanford, Washington taking food vouchers. Dorothy and Bill were married August 11, 1944 in Spokane, Washington after Bill was wounded in World War II. Dorothy and Bill moved to Redding, CA in 1948. After the war, Dorothy became a beautician. She worked until she started her family and then she was a stay at home mom. When her children were in High School, she went back to work for her husband as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1989.
Dorothy was involved in her church and volunteered for years at the Veterans Clinic.
She is survived by her children: Bill (Lisa) Allpress, Debra (Dave) Armstrong, and Barbara Allpress; and four grandchildren: Amanda and Sarah Allpress, Stephen and Matthew Armstrong. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother and sisters and her husband of 46 years, Bill Allpress.
