In Loving Memory of Helen (Byers) Denham.
Helen Pauline Denham was born May 15, 1923, to Charles C. and Gladys B. (LOGUE) Byers at the family home southeast of Cumberland. She passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic at the age of 86.
Helen was raised on the family farm. She attended country school at Grandview No. 7 in Edna Township and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1941.
On June 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clifford Ray Denham in Lyndon, Kan. To this union four children were born: Kathy, Debbie, Tim, and Tom. She helped her husband out by driving on many veterinary calls through the years. She had worked as a nurse's aid at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. Ray's gift to Helen one year was the grocery store in Cumberland, which they owned and operated for a number of years. Helen also assisted with visitations and funerals for the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. Helen loved to serve. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and especially loved being with her grandchildren and family. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Cumberland and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Denham; son, Tim Denham; sister, Joan Cornell; brothers-in-law, Wayne Denham, Myron Denham and Dale Cornell.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Cullen and husband Francis of Cumberland and Debbie Wohlenhaus and husband Fred of Omaha; son, Tom Denham and wife Janet of Elkhorn, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Cathy Denham of Atlantic; sister, Ruth Denham of Cumberland; 14 grandchildren, Bill Cullen, Mark Cullen and wife Sandy, Steve Cullen and wife Misty, Andy Cullen and wife Julianna, John Wohlenhaus and wife Donna, Anna Amdor and husband Mark, Nathan Wohlenhaus and wife Tami, Brian Denham and wife Jen, Matt Denham, Tom Watson, Dan Watson, Phil Denham, Julie Denham, and Joe Denham; 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Martensen of Belvidere, Ill.; nephews, Doug Denham and wife Kathy and Todd Denham and wife Linn; nieces, Janet Barr and husband Jeff and Julie Denham; other relatives and friends.
The Steen Funeral Home in Massena was in charge of the professional arrangements.
