Ruth D. Bailey, 98, passed away May 11, 2017. She was born December 18, 1918 in Scotia, NY, one of eight children blessed upon Leonard and Edna (Couchey) Dempster. Despite years of constant declarations that she would never marry and only ever be Mother to two matching Great Danes, she is survived by her five remaining children, Kristine (Bruce) Johnson, Melanie Hensley, JoAnne (Richard) Myles, Sarah Carelli, Jon (MaryJo) Bailey, and daughter-in-law, Peggy Bailey. She also leaves behind her small village of 22 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lucius "Homer" Bailey Jr., and son, Lucius "Chum" Bailey III. Ruthie met her husband while attending nursing school at Syracuse University. To Ruth's chagrin, while on their first date Homer disregarded her protests of marriage and declared that they would indeed marry one day. Their vows were said prior to Homer's deployment overseas during WWII. Ruth would later enlist as an Army Nurse to be near her husband. It is with a heavy heart that the family loses our Matriarch, but with bittersweet smiles knowing that she is being united with the love of her life and her eldest son. Friends may call Friday, May 19 from 12pm to 1pm with a service to follow at 1pm at the Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Tpk. Syracuse. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Hospice of Buffalo.
