Edward J. Deklotz, age 94, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 23rd 1916 and was called home to the Lord on April 20, 2011. He attended the University of Nebraska receiving a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering in 1939. Early employment included working for oil refining companies in West Texas and Central Kansas. He did research and development into the use of soil-cement as a low cost paving material for secondary roads and light aircraft for the Portland Cement Association in Chicago. As a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve he was called to active duty during WWII. He served for 3 years at the U.S. Naval Operating Base in Palermo Sicily. Following the war he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha Nebraska as a construction materials specialist at the Missouri River Division Laboratory in Omaha. After 32 years of service he retired in 1975 then as Director of the Laboratory. He was a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineering, Member of the American Society for Testing Materials and Member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He moved to Sun City in 1978 and is a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. He was active in the Sun City Cycle Mates cycling club and was a volunteer in the West Side Food Bank for 7 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Loraine and is survived by two sons and one daughter. Ed has three grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. [names of living removed]
