Sept. 26, 1938 May 31, 2010
YUMA, Ariz. - Wanda Joan (Deardorff) Barnhart, 71, of Yuma, Ariz., died May 31, 2010, with her husband, Ron and daughter, Ronda at her side. A memorial service is planned for July 10, 2010, in Prairie City.

Mrs. Barnhart was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Goldendale, Wash., to Herb and Jessie Deardorff.

Her parents moved around following construction work. In 1952, they returned to Prairie City, where they lived on the Deardorff family ranch.

In 1956, she graduated from Prairie City High School, where she was a majorette, and active in school activities and 4-H. She loved animals and was good with horses. She also had reserve grand champion steer at the Cow Palace in Portland.

She was queen of the Prairie City Stampede Rodeo in 1953, and in 1953 and 1955, was Grant County Fair princess.

On May 26, 1956, she married Ronald Barnhart. They moved to Boise, Idaho, where they raised their family. She worked at the Merc Department Store there and was also a baker and cook for the Boise school system.

They moved back to Prairie City in Sept. 1983, where she drove a school bus for Prairie City School; then to Portland, where they were caretakers for a family; and to Twin Falls, Idaho. They also ran a janitorial and yard service business for 12 years.

After retirement in 2004, they moved to Yuma.

Survivors include her husband, Ron, of Yuma; daughters, Ronda (Steve) McGavern of Valley Center, Calif., and Beckie (John) Chehey of Boise, Idaho; son, Bob (Pam) Barnhart of Boise; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Deardorff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. (Blue Mountain Eagle newspaper, John Day, Grant, Oregon)
