Catherine DeVree Rouse, 87, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the McKay-Dee Hospital of a massive stroke. She was born June 4, 1919 in Utrecht, Holland a daughter of Henry and Dena Mackay DeVree. On July 21, 1942 she married Owen Eugene Rouse in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Feb. 15, 1950. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 1991 after 49 years of marriage. She emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States with her parents when she was 11 months old, coming directly to Ogden through Ellis Island. She attended Ogden City Schools graduating from Ogden High School in 1938 with the first graduating class in the new high school. She also graduated from the Smithsonian Business College in Ogden where she was a past president of Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Iota, national business sorority. She was a member of the LDS Madison Ward where she had been active as Relief Society secretary and visiting teacher. In earlier years, she worked as secretary at the Ogden City School Board Office, M & M Bottling Co., Corp of Engineers at the Defense Depot. She retired in 1984 from the Trust Department at the First Security Bank in Ogden after 19 years of service. Catherine spent her married life supporting her husband, who was the director of a male chorus, the Men of Song. She enjoyed traveling and participating in the activities and attending performances of the singing group and friendships of the members. She enjoyed being a homemaker, spending time with her children and friends, sewing, gardening and working in an office. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, and their spouses, Ronald O. (Karin) Rouse, Sandy, Leslie R. (Michael) Grow, Washington, DC, Marcia R. (David) Bruner, Pleasant View; and Earl S. (Sharon) Rouse, Wellsville, Utah; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Avon White, Citrus Heights, CA, and Beverly Bowen, Springfield, VA; and a sister-in-law, Elaine R. Osborne, Salt Lake City. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Larkin & Sons Mortuary where friends may call Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation to the Owen E. Rouse Foundation, 1408 Hopkins St. NW Washington, DC 20036.
