Clara was born May 7, 1906 in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania to Grant Russell and Alice Mae (Anthony) Devore. She was their oldest daughter. She appears on the family census with her father and mother in 1920. She married sometime before 1930 census and she appears in the 1930 census as Clara Crowl along with her husband, John Crowl. In 1930, they are on the census with Clara's maternal aunt, Ella (Anthony)Potts and her husband, Robert Potts. Clara died on March 9, 1936 at the Jameson Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Her address at that time was R.D.#2, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Her obituary states that she was a member of the First Christian Church of Ellwood City. Funeral services were conducted from the home of her parents at Isle, Pennsylvania and interment was made in the Eastbrook United Presbyterian Cemetery. No headstone was evident at the cemetery.
