Josephine Rose (DePhillips) Leo, age 93 of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 of congestive heart failure.

Josie was born May 28, 1914 to Italian immigrants Emidio & Maria DePhillips in the White Chapel section of Des Moines. Josie later attended school, married and raised her own family in her childhood home in the Grandview Neighborhood of East Des Moines.

Her Catholic faith and lifelong dedication to St. Joseph Catholic Church was a very important part of her life. She attended daily Mass and was a member of the St. Joseph Rosary Confraternity. Now she's gone home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ and rest eternally in his comfort and care. Her love for her friends, her children, grands and greats knew no bounds. Her smile was wide and her eyes all a twinkle in the presence of little children, animals and the sound of a good polka. She listened for God's voice and looked for the good in each day and person she met. All who met her loved her. She was one of God's angels here on earth.

Left to celebrate her life are her three sons, Peter (Betty), Michael (Julie), Samuel (Linda), her only daughter, Mary (Larry) Coleman, eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Leo, her parents, Emidio and Maria DePhillips, brothers, Nick, Frank and Pete DePhillips, sister, Lucra DeCarlo and grandson, Jamie Coleman.
