Carolyn Cook, 80, of Lake Charles, LA died at 8:35 PM on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Born September 25, 1929 and raised in New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Cook worked as the head nurse of the Psychiatric Unit of Charity Hospital in New Orleans. In 1959 she moved to Lake Charles, LA, where she was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She was also a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Auxiliary, the Junior League of Lake Charles, and volunteered for the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. During her free time, Mrs. Cook enjoyed painting, needlepoint, traveling, and playing bridge. She was a gourmet cook. She will always be remembered as a wonderful, supportive, and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Cook is survived by her sons, Avery Levern Cook, Jr. and wife Faye and Arthur Douglas Cook, all of Lake Charles; daughters, Dr. Shawn Cook Bajo and husband Dr. Philip Bajo of San Diego, CA and Caroline Cook Reuter and husband Dierk of London, England; grandchildren, Caroline Bajo, Anna Bajo, and Lindsay Bajo, all of San Diego, CA, Alexander Reuter and Christopher Reuter, both of London, Adele Cook, Avery Cook III, Andrew Cook and Allison Cook, all of Lake Charles, Katherine Cook Khoury and husband Kevin of Houston, TX, and Douglas Cook, Jr. and Miller Cook of Lake Charles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Avery Levern Cook. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 715 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601 or the Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, 1701 Oak Park Blvd, Lake Charles, LA 70601. Mrs. Cook was cremated under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A private memorial service and inurnment was held on Thursday in the Resurrection Chapel of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Gregory Wyatt for his dedicated service and support to Mrs. Cook and her family.
